Vivid

Curated by Bana Toutounjee and Federico Sentinelli.

The theme is inspired from the work of Salvador Dali and Sigmund Freud’s theory of dreams, ‘Vivid’ exhibition takes us on a journey that transforms the human thoughts and desires into surreal visions that we experience through dreams. According to Sigmund Freud dreams are like a train that transport our thoughts from one place to another once we ‘disconnect from reality’ (S.Freud). Depicting scenes of surreal visions and unwanted desires that the human mind creates, interrupting time, place and space of a certain event. The theme of the artwork that we are looking for involves surreal events or scenes that one experience through dreams. It could be real, a fantasy or a desire.

ArtGalleriesEurope is proud to present the new Indonesian group show “Crouching Tigers & Hidden Dragons”
Featuring 22 up and coming exciting artists in our galleries in London and Paris. Yanitzer, Raden Saleh, Hofker.W.G, Ivan Sangita

"Artspace-Galleries and One East Asia is proud to present this small yet remarkable exhibition tracing three major phases in the development of Indonesian art. Appreciating art – any form of art – takes time. Unfamiliarity with distant cultures and the passing of time can sometimes create a gulf between viewer and artwork, so we aim in this exhibition to impart knowledge about Indonesia’s visual heritage and it historical context in order to show the full glory of its artistic output.

While focussing predominately on work by living artists, we hope, by looking back over 170 years, to show not only how Indonesian visual art has changed and matured, but also how rich and diverse it has become – especially over the last decade."

"Indonesia’s Crouching Tigers & Hidden Dragons, a ground breaking exhibition of modern and contemporary painting and sculpture by leading Indonesian artists, will take place at ArtGalleriesEurope in London’s Mayfair from 6 to 20 November 2011. The show coincides with the annual Asian Art in London celebration (3-12 November), which each year attracts international scholars and collectors to the British capital."

He studied at the Arts and Crafts School in Shanghai, and also studied oil painting and printmaking at Osaka Art School. He worked as an interior designer for Shanghai Arts and Crafts Company and is now a full-time painter. As a Chinese who like Western culture, I am very fond of Chinese culture too, in particular China’s classical paintings. Using paper and pigments specially made for Chinese paintings to paint those famous nude images in Western classical paintings, as well as painting Chinese painting on canvas, technically is not particularly difficult, but a very pleasant challenge. What the real difficulty is the image adjustments for two completely different art conceptions. Two completely different culture symbols so harmoniously fit together, it is very surprising, although to me, these works with the nature of the experiment, but the effect is beyond my imagination, and even I have been deeply moved. Ancient Chinese painters described the world with an elegant and natural stroke; I tried to use the same way to describe the nude female body with the hope of creating a new style and the hope of giving new life to the traditional style.
